NATIONAL SCHOOL LUNCH PROGRAM

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) is a federally assisted meal program operating in public and nonprofit private schools and residential childcare institutions. It provides nutritionally balanced, low-cost, or free lunches to children each school day. The program was established under the National School Lunch Act, signed by President Harry Truman in 1946. This is what they say, but it’s not true. Yes, the people that are poor are given free food, but the kids that aren’t, are charged $3.05 for a basic meal. For people that buy food often or even 3 times a week, it can cost them up to $10.

RRISD LUNCH SERVICES

Another lunch service that has fail us and is lying to us is the RRISD Lunch Services. RRISD Lunch Services is said to address the problem of bad food, but hasn’t made any changes. The menu is repeated weekly and is practically the same each day. Also the food is  not freshly prepared. The food is oily and greasy.

GOALS - PURPOSE

The reason that we are trying to change the existing lunch menu is because of its quality and quantity. Many students have parents that just don’t have the time to make lunch for them so they buy lunch at the cafeteria. When they do buy lunch they are presented with frozen veggies and fruits, oily pizza, and a few other choices that don’t change weekly. There aren't many options for vegetarians. Not only is the pizza greasy, but the nachos have watery cheese. We firmly believe that the school owes the students good food instead of the greasy food that is certainly there. Since no one is taking action, we decided we should that we should help change the menu for not just our school, but all middle schools. Our mission is to renovate the entire school lunch system to be delicious and healthy.
